Introducing... THE SHABBY SHED

I have been keeping a secret but the secret is finally out! For months now, my aunts, my grandma, my mom, sister, and I have been working on a project combining our love for painted furniture, textile art, and everything in between!  We've been looking for a place to display our creations and we finally found it in the most unlikely source....my grandma's huge shed....SOOOO......

After months of scrubbing, hammering,  sanding, refurbishing,  painting and decorating, it’s finally happening…..the Shabby Shed is opening for business!   The Grand Event (our first tag sale…we’re so excited!!) will be on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. to ?????  (I guess we will leave it open ended for now!). We don’t mind, we like being at “The Shed” as we affectionately call it…..it’s come a long way from a dusty, cob-webby, lawnmower-storing regular shed. It’s been transformed into a shabby chic haven, it’s rafters and walls painted creamy white and decorated with sparkly Christmas lights, a checkerboard floor,  beautiful Rachel Ashwell curtains and even a chandelier. Some of us have seriously entertained the notion of moving in permanently, it’s so cute..!  (I think I saw my aunt carrying in a TV the other day…)
Our seven vendors (grandma, me, my aunts, my sister  and my mom…lol) have been briskly preparing their wares for the special day, some of us sanding and painting, some of us sewing and clipping, some of us gluing and cutting….the final results will be unveiled and available for PURCHASE (yeah!) on the morning of October 13th. Offerings include painted and hand stenciled Annie Sloan furniture,  handmade wool cupcake ornaments (Christmas is coming!),  vintage painted shutters and windows,  decoupaged baby blocks,  shabby chic paper goods and frameables, as well as vintage quilted pillows and trivets. I know, I know…...it DOES sound awesome!!....and it IS....... BE THERE!! (and bring friends!!)  The Shabby Shed is located at 2603 Kings Ridge Road in Parkville. Look for the balloons!! See the pictures below for a sneak peek of the shed and some of the items we are planning on selling!

The View From the Nation's Capitol

I love DC.  I love the museums, monuments, and memorials. I love seeing tourists walking around with cameras. I love the hustle and bustle. I just love being in the middle of all of it! I was thrilled when I was told this morning that I would be visiting our company's job site at the Capitol. The project, which was awarded in 2011, involved restoring the Capitol Dome's skirt. The project is currently wrapping up in preparation for the 2013 Inaugural.

I was escorted to the roof of the Capitol to see the incredible work that the company did and the view was amazing. Imagine this being your view everyday at work!

After the tour we headed to Union Station for lunch. Not a bad day at work if you ask me!

J'aime peindre meubles!

I'm posting twice in one day to make up for my lack of posting this week and also because I just can't hold this exciting news in any longer!...

I wanted to share three extremely unique pieces of furniture that I scored off of Craigslist. I have had them for a couple months now (oops, sorry Mom and Dad!) but haven't gotten around to refinishing them yet because I wanted to practice with other pieces before getting a speck of paint on these. Even without being refinished, these pieces are beautiful but I just have a slightly different idea in mind for them. I can't wait any longer! I need to show the world these incredible French Provincial gems!....

OK now the post title should make more sense! You see it is "I love painting furniture" in French! I wish I could say I remembered this from high school French class but sadly I had to look it up. Maybe I should have paid a little more attention...

Anyways, these pictures just don't do these pieces justice. The details and carvings are incredible. The drum table is by far my favorite! I can't wait to start them. I am thinking of painting them gray with cream accents but any suggestions as to color would be appreciated! :)

Frame your favorite quote

I loved today. The weather was perfect and I got to spend some quality time with my Mom. We went to church, shopped at Joann's, and did some crafts.

Here's what I made...

I decided to put this frame on my night stand. It is the perfect motivational quote to start my day!

My Buddy Moose

The people that know me best know that I am an animal lover. Which is why it is no surprise that Moose, our family bullmastiff, owns a very large part of my heart....

Let me show you little Moosey when he was a puppy.

But then the inevitable happened.. he got bigger....

Moose weighs around 155 lbs now but he still thinks he is a lap dog. One person asked me at the park...."are you walking him or is he walking you?". He also made a small child cry just by walking up to him! I felt so bad!

But Moosey is the sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever known. He always brightens my day and I love him so much!

Purple and Orange Deliciousness: Celebrating Baltimore

I made these chocolate covered jumbo marshmallows for Doug's family birthday cookout on Sunday! I wanted to make them Baltimore style in honor of the start of the Raven's season and how well the O's are doing..... they were a huge hit! (no pun intended)

super easy and super delicious!
